Orlando Groups Attend Game Developers Conference in San Francisco

This week Orlando developers, students, educators, and city officials are attending the Game Developers Conference at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, California. The conference, taking place March 17- 21, is “an event designed to inform and educate game industry professionals on online multiplayer games, mobile, and next generation game technologies.”

While conference activities launched on Monday, the expo- a focus for many of Orlando’s traveling companies- started today. The expo provides a chance for companies to demo their products for the massive GDC audience. That includes companies offering services to game developers as well as the game companies themselves.

The conference includes sessions from industry experts on topics like advanced visual effects, animation, Unity for iOS games, and math for programmers. Speakers from studios like Irrational Games, Obsidian Entertainment, Epic Games, and DICE/ EA, as well as experts from Unity Technologies, Disney Digital Publishing, Gamasutra, Mozilla and others will host a wide range of educational panels. Several studios will also provide post-mortem evaluations of classic games.

There is plenty of benefit in the event for professionals in all areas of game design or design support. Attending Orlando groups include game companies EA – Tiburon, Phyken Media and n-Space; analytics company SPLYT; board members from IGDA Orlando and IndieNomicon; students, faculty, and alumni from FIEA and Full Sail; and a few city officials. Many will be sharing news of their adventures on their websites and social media.
