Melrose Center at Downtown Library Now Offering Classes

The Dorothy Lumley Melrose Center for Technology, Innovation, and Creativity, located on the second floor of the downtown public library, is now offering classes. In order to use the Center’s audio recording studio, simulation lab, 3D printer, video production studio, or other equipment, visitors must take a general orientation class and then area-specific classes. After taking classes anyone can reserve time to use the equipment on their own.

Melrose Center classes are now being offered on a daily basis. Anyone wanting to take a class can either sign up on the website or call the library to make a reservation. It isn’t necessary to be an Orange County resident to use the facilities, but out-of-county visitors need to register by calling the library. There is no fee for any of the orientation classes, or for use of the Center’s equipment, including for those without a library card.

The Orange County public library system offers a variety of free or low-cost technology classes throughout the year. These classes teach visitors how to use the library’s production equipment and the software necessary for pre- and post- production, as well as providing general instruction in such areas as media design, electronics, and programming. Today the Melrose Center is offering classes in the fundamentals of Adobe InDesign and Premier.

The Melrose Center presents an opportunity to any member of the community interested in learning professional technology production skills. It was designed to be a center for advanced independent learning, serving as a resource for the community and a catalyst for the development of STEM skills.
